FSV Mainz 05, coming on as a substitute for Jakub Błaszczykowski in the 88th minute. Josh McEachran

Full name Joshua Mark McEachran
Date of birth 1 March 1993 (1993-03-01) (age 18)
Place of birth Oxford, England
Height 1.78 m (5 ft 10 in)
Playing position Midfielder

Joshua Mark "Josh" McEachran (born 1 March 1993 in Oxford, England) is an English footballer who plays as a midfielder for Premier League club Chelsea.

Early life

McEachran was born in Oxford to Scottish parents.[2] He began playing football for Garden City F.C. in the Oxford Mail Boys League, where he was spotted by a Chelsea scout.[3] He then joined the Blues as an academy player at the age of 8 and rose through the ranks while juggling his academic responsibilities at Marlborough School in Woodstock.[4]

Club career

Chelsea

McEachran made his competitive first team debut for Chelsea against MŠK Žilina on 15 September 2010 as a substitute.[5] He became the first player to be born after the UEFA Champions League started on 25 November 1992 to take part in the competition.[5][6] McEachran made his home debut in a League Cup tie against Newcastle United, where he again came on as a substitute.
He made his Premier League debut on 25 September in a 1-0 defeat to Manchester City.[7] On 23 November 2010 manager Carlo Ancelotti announced that McEachran would make his first start against MŠK Žilina in which he did. He followed this up by playing the entire game away to Marseille in a UEFA Champions League group game.
McEachran started for Chelsea against Newcastle at Stamford Bridge on 15 May 2011. His inclusion in the line-up was viewed by pundits as a suggestion that the Chelsea administration are keen to retain McEachran and that they recognise the importance of younger players in an otherwise ageing team.[8] He then came off the bench to make his ninth league appearance away to Everton F.C. in the final game of the 2010-11 Premier League season.[9] In his debut season in the Chelsea first team, McEachran was awarded the Chelsea Young Player of The Year award on 19 May 2011.[10]
On 15 July 2011, he signed a new five-year deal, alongside team-mate Ryan Bertrand who signed a four-year deal with Chelsea.[11] He scored his first Chelsea senior team goal against Aston Villa with a first minute tap-in to open the scoring. Chelsea went on to win the game 2-0 and win the Barclays Asia Trophy. On 12 August 2011, Chelsea announced he would wear the number 20 shirt, last worn by Deco, for the 2011/12 season.

International career

McEachran represented England at U-16 level and was part of the England U17 side to win the 2010 European Under-17 Football Championship. He quickly progressed through the ranks and has since gone on to become a regular in the England U19 side and was further rewarded for his good early season form with Chelsea's first team by making his debut for England U21 against Germany on 16 November 2010 at the age of just 17.

Style of play

Former Chelsea player and former Chelsea assistant coach Ray Wilkins recalled the first time he laid eyes on McEachran saying: "A couple of years back, when I had just joined Chelsea, I was watching an Under-17 match between us and Racing, a club side from Argentina. Josh was playing, despite only being 15; I'd never seen him play before, but in the first half he cut inside someone and played an inch-perfect pass inside the full-back. I turned to the other Chelsea coaches next to me and said, 'That's Liam Brady!' It was the biggest compliment I could think of at the time." Stuart Pearce, the England national football team under-21 manager, praised McEachran after a friendly against Italy. He said, "Chelsea think extremely highly of him (Josh) and you can see why. He's got the ability and the vision that you know, if players run off of him, he's got the ability to find them with passes. All of our cutting passes probably came from him. I think, in Josh, he's got a really outstanding talent, similar to Jack Wilshere, and it bodes well for us."
Under the management of Carlo Ancelotti, McEachran was deployed mainly as a defensive midfielder in his appearances for the first team, usually replacing Michael Essien or John Obi Mikel, although his preferred position is as a centre or attacking midfielder.

Club career

Colo-Colo

Vidal's professional debut came in the first leg of the 2006 Apertura Tournament final. The match was between Colo-Colo and arch rivals Universidad de Chile. Vidal was called into action with less than ten minutes left in the match for Gonzalo Fierro. Colo-Colo would go on to win the game 2-1 and win the championship as well. In the following season (2006 Clausura Tournament) Vidal would become a more intricate piece of the squad and would lead Colo-Colo to their second championship win in a row. He has appeared in over thirty league matches for Colo-Colo. Vidal scored goals in all types of matches. He always had a strong relation with the net during the local league as well as the international scene where Vidal scored three goals in Colo-Colo's Copa Sudamericana 2006 campaign. During this campaign Vidal caught the eye of visiting scouts.

Bayer Leverkusen

The 2007 Apertura Tournament was Vidal's last with Colo-Colo, after being transferred to German club Bayer Leverkusen. Bayer had tracked his progress for some time and his good showing at the U-20 World Cup that year convinced Bayer' Director of Football Rudi Völler to make the trip all the way to Chile in order to convince the twenty-year-old to sign.[2] The two clubs then agreed on a fee of $11 million with Bayer Leverkusen paying $7.7 million for seventy percent ownership of his contract. His transfer broke the previous record of Mati Fernandez's $9 million transfer to Villarreal C.F..[3]
Vidal missed the first game of the season through injury but was soon thrust into the starting line-up and made his debut on 19 August 2007 in the away loss at Hamburg. He started in half the season's games and scored his first goal for the club just three games into his Bayer career. He was ever present for the 2008–09 season and played a vital role in Bayer's run to the German Cup final. On 8 March, he suffered a concussion during the game against VfL Bochum and was out for a month. Upon his return, he scored a goal to break the deadlock in the 4-1 semifinal win over Mainz but Bayer eventually lost to Werder Bremen in the final.

He has since been a regular under Marcelo Bielsa when fit during 2010 World Cup qualifying, playing in 11 matches and scoring a goal.[6] He was then named in the final 23-man squad for the tournament.

Playing position Goalkeeper

David de Gea Quintana born 7 November 1990) is a Spanish professional footballer who plays for Atletico Madrid as a goalkeeper.

Club career

A product of Atlético de Madrid's youth system, De Gea spent his first professional seasons with the reserves, in Segunda División B. As first-choice Sergio Asenjo was away on international duty, he received his first main side call-ups. On September 30, 2009, he replaced injured Roberto during the UEFA Champions League contest at F.C. Porto, in an eventual 0–2 loss, not yet aged 19.

Three days later, De Gea made his La Liga debuts, at home against Real Zaragoza; he gave away a penalty kick in the 19th minute, but saved the ensuing Marko Babić attempt, in an eventual 2–1 triumph.[1] After some costly mistakes by Asenjo, and the arrival of Quique Sánchez Flores as manager, he finished the season as the starter – twice earning Man of the match awards along the way, against Athletic Bilbao and Valencia CF. Additionally, he appeared in eight games in the club's victorious UEFA Europa League campaign, including the 2–1 final win against Fulham.

De Gea started 2010–11 in impressive fashion, helping Atlético win the season's UEFA Super Cup: in the 90th minute of the 2–0 win against Internazionale Milano, he saved a Diego Milito penalty kick.
On 24 May 2011, Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson claimed that the club is close to completing a deal to sign De Gea as a replacement for the retiring Edwin van der Sar.

However, De Gea has stated that he will not make a decision on his future until after the European Under-21 Championship.

Manchester United

The first half of 2011 saw a great deal of speculation regarding how Manchester United would replace their retiring goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar, and much attention focused on De Gea, among others.[8] After Gary Neville's testimonial against Juventus on 24 May, United manager Alex Ferguson claimed that a deal had been done to bring De Gea to Old Trafford, but this was later denied by De Gea's representatives and the Atlético management, with De Gea stating that he would not consider his future until after the UEFA Under-21 Championship.[9] Following Spain's victory, De Gea was spotted in Manchester having a medical with United on 27 June. The next day, he reported that United were making him a contract offer, and the transfer was confirmed on 29 June.
He made his first appearance for Manchester United in a 3–1 friendly win over Chicago Fire on 23 July 2011. He made his competitive debut for United against Manchester City in the Community Shield on 7 August. Despite being caught out in the first half by a header from Joleon Lescott and a long range Edin Džeko strike that put City into a 2–0 lead, United rallied in the second half and won 3–2.[11] De Gea made his league debut for Manchester United against West Bromwich Albion a week later, where he failed to stop a "tame" Shane Long goal during a 2–1 United victory

International career

De Gea helped Spain's U17 win the 2007 European Championship, and finish second at the 2007 World Cup.
In early May 2010, courtesy of solid Atlético performances, he was named by senior squad manager Vicente del Bosque in a provisional 30-man squad, in view of the upcoming FIFA World Cup;eventually, he did not make the final cut.

Playing position Winger

Santiago "Santi" Cazorla González born 13 December 1984 in Llanera, Asturias) is a Spanish footballer who plays for Villarreal CF in La Liga.
A versatile winger, he can play on either flank, being ambidextrous. He is noted for his speed and capacity to change the rhythm of gameplay.
Cazorla represented Spain at Euro 2008, helping the national team win the tournament.

Club career

Having started playing football for local Asturian club Real Oviedo, Cazorla was snapped up by Villarreal CF several months before turning 18. He progressed through the reserve team, making his first team debut on 30 November 2003, playing one minute in a 1–0 win at Deportivo de La Coruña.
Established in the main squad in 2004–05, Cazorla scored four goals in the season's UEFA Cup, also making two goalless appearances in the following season's UEFA Champions League .
On 7 July 2006, Recreativo de Huelva signed Cazorla for 600.000 on a four-year contract, with a clause in his contract whereby he could return to Villarreal (for €1.2 million), going on to score in his team debut, a 1–1 home draw with RCD Mallorca, on 27 August. He became Spanish player of the year according to Don Balón, a member of European Sports Magazines after topping its rating list.[2] On April 22, 2007, Cazorla dedicated a goal to his father, who had died recently, in a 4–2 home win against Racing de Santander. He helped the Andalusians, which had just returned from the second division, eventually finish eighth.
The following year, Villarreal took advantage of the clause in Cazorla's contract and bought him back, as the team believed he had proven himself. In his first season in his second spell, Cazorla was instrumental in Villarreal's final runner-up final placing, providing assists for Nihat Kahveci and Giuseppe Rossi and netting five goals himself.
On 26 August 2008, Cazorla announced that Real Madrid wanted to buy him.[3] He then went on to cause a stir in the media by rejecting the team announcing that, "There are many other things in football besides Real Madrid. It's clear that it is possible to say "no" to them, There is no doubt that they are a great team, but I also feel very satisfied and valued at my club". "I hope I can continue growing at Villarreal because I am young and I’m only starting off with the national team."[4]
During a league game against UD Almería in early April 2009, Cazorla injured his right fibula after suffering a challenge from two opponents.[5] He missed several matches but the Yellow Submarine still managed to qualify for the Europa League, as the player made his comeback earlier than expected in the side's final match, a 3–2 win at RCD Mallorca, and finished the league campaign with a career-best eight goals.
Cazorla struggled heavily with injury in the 2009–10 season,[6][7] going on to miss the 2010 World Cup.[8] He returned to full fitness in the following campaign, only missing one match and scoring five times as Villarreal finished fourth and qualified to the Champions League.

International career

Cazorla began his international career in the U21 team, under Iñaki Sáez. He was called upon for play-off matches against Italy for the 2004 Summer Olympics.[9]
Cazorla played the first match, which ended 0–0, where he coming on the 77' minute for Javier Arizmendi, but was absent in the second leg, as the nation did not eventually qualify for the competition.[10]
On 17 May 2008, senior side boss Luis Aragonés surprised the Spanish press by including the uncapped Cazorla and Sergio García in his UEFA Euro 2008 squad, over more established wingers such as Joaquín and Albert Riera.[11] To justify his decision when asked, Aragonés stated, "They are players [Cazorla and García] who are performing very well and had the possibility of coming. I made myself decide between Riera and Cazorla where I considered each player's form, and in Sergio García's case, he has become very effective on the right wing, we needed another player there and he deserved to come".[12]
After making his debut on 31 May 2008 in a 2–1 friendly win over Peru, Cazorla made substitute appearances in the tournament's group stage matches against Russia,[13] Sweden[14] and Greece,[15] also coming from the bench in the quarterfinals against Italy, converting his penalty in the ensuing shootout which Spain won.[16] In the final, he played the last 25 minutes for David Silva, as Spain defeated Germany 1–0 and aided his country in winning their first major tournament in 44 years.[17]
On 19 November 2008, Cazorla scored his first international goal against Chile, a 3–0 friendly win on his club's homeground. He was summoned for the following year's FIFA Confederations Cup, where he made a couple of substitute appearances.
After missing the 2010 FIFA World Cup due to a hernia,[6] Cazorla returned to the national team's setup. On 4 June 2011, during the first half of a friendly against the United States in Boston, he scored twice on assists from Silva, in a 4–0 win
